Ira Golan passed away June 8, 2012, at Shalom Park Nursing Home. The burial took place at Zion Gardens Cemetery in Chicago. Feldman Mortuary made the local arrangements.
“His goal throughout life was to be of value, and he was,” said his daughter Marilyn Bogan. “He was a successful businessman, he cared for others, he loved his family, and he was of value to his community.”
Mr. Golan was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin.
He was president and CEO of the Flavour Candy Company in Chicago.
Mr. Golan later served as executive director of the United Way of Evanston, Ill., and executive director of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce.
He was on the boards of Beth Emet Synagogue, the Cook County Area Agency on Aging and Rotary International.
Mr. Golan’s wife Helen passed away in 1998.
In July of 2010, he moved to Shalom Park Nursing Home.
Mr. Golan is survived by his daughter Marilyn (Paul) Bogan of Denver and son Mark (Claire) Golan of Riverwoods, Ill.; grandchildren Allan (Robyn Becker) Bogan, Neil (Elizabeth Lande) Bogan, Sharon (David Sabban) Bogan, Emily (Armand) Rabinowitz and Ross Golan; six great-grandchildren; and brother Bernard (Gwen) Golan.
